Corona's false reporter sentenced to two years in prison

Abu Dhabi's Federal Court of Appeals has upheld a two-year prison sentence for a local TV channel reporter and a foreign national who broadcast false news about the corona virus.

According to the Arab newspaper, a local TV reporter in the United Arab Emirates had broadcast the news of the death of five members of the same family from the corona virus, which was also supported by a foreign citizen of the Arab country.

The local administration says that false news creates an atmosphere of fear in the society. This was also denied by the Ministry of Health after the news was broadcast, but a case was also filed against a reporter of a local TV channel and a foreign national in this regard.

The initial court had sentenced the two to two years imprisonment and deportation orders for foreigners on false information.

However, the accused had filed an appeal against the preliminary judgment in which the Federal Court of Appeal reviewed the circumstances and the evidence and upheld the sentence while upholding the judgment of the previous court.
