ISLAMABAD: A lawyer has withdrawn his power of attorney in a disqualification case against Federal Minister Faisal Wawda.

A disqualification case against Federal Minister Faisal Wawda was heard in the Islamabad High Court. After Faisal Wawda's lawyer Muhammad bin Mohsin withdrew his power of attorney, new lawyer Haroon Dougal submitted his power of attorney to the court.

Justice Amir Farooq remarked that Faisal Wawda should present the documents in the court at the next hearing. Two and a half years of Parliament have passed and two and a half are left.

Barrister Jahangir Jadoon said that Faisal Wawda seems to be in the next hearing and then the lawyers will change. The court ordered that Faisal Wawda is being given one last chance to follow the case. The court has to proceed with the case according to law.

Barrister Jahangir Jadoon told the court that Faisal Wawda had submitted a false affidavit of dual citizenship to the Election Commission before the general election while Faisal Wawda was a US citizen at the time. Therefore, the court disqualified Faisal Wawda as a member of the National Assembly.

The court granted Faisal Wawda's request for adjournment and adjourned the hearing till December 15.

It should be noted that Faisal Wawda had submitted his nomination papers to the Election Commission on June 11, 2018 to contest the 2018 general elections, but at that time Faisal Wawda was a US citizen.

An affidavit of non-dual citizenship was submitted to the Election Commission at the time of submission of papers. Faisal Wawda was also a US citizen at the time of scrutiny of the papers.

The Returning Officer accepted Faisal Wawda's nomination papers on June 18, 2018 and on June 22, 2018, Faisal Wawda applied for renunciation of US citizenship at the US Consulate in Karachi which was accepted on June 25, 2018 and Faisal Wawda Certificate of renunciation of US citizenship was issued.
