From the evening of elections in other countries, including Pakistan, all TV channels start broadcasting contradictory results. In such cases, the viewers get confused as to which channel's results should be trusted.
Although Pakistan's TV channels try to acquit themselves by adding 'unofficial and unconfirmed' to their results, this does not alleviate the people's anxiety.
In contrast, the results of the US presidential election are allowed to be broadcast on certain channels and these channels also cannot broadcast unconfirmed and unofficial results but will announce the official results.
This policy is not only for electronic media but also Twitter has announced that tweets related to the results in which the results have been announced from sources other than these channels will be blocked. Facebook has not yet commented.
The official list includes six news channels: ABC News, CNN, CBS News, Decision Desk HQ, Fox News and NBC News, along with the US state news agency AP.
If a reporter or user on Twitter tweets about the results without referring to any of these organizations, that tweet will be blocked.
A US broadcaster claims that Trump has informed people close to him that he will announce his victory on Tuesday night if his lead is shown during the initial count.
Given the extraordinary nature of this year's presidential election, technology platforms have implemented a set of rules and regulations regarding early announcement of election night victory.
