Lahore: Police torture during protest, a farmer killed

A farmer who was injured in police violence during a protest in Lahore died at the hospital. The farmers accused the police of protesters threw chemicals mixed with water during the shelling.
Farmers have been protesting in Lahore for three days. So far, the police have beaten him several times. He used tear gas against them and dispersed them through water cannons, but he returned to the streets after a while.
Last evening, farmers blocked the road near Thokar Niaz Beg and the police cracked down on them. According to Kisan Ittehad President Chaudhry Anwar, Malik Ashfaq was injured in a clash with police during a sit-in last evening. He was rushed to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Chaudhry Anwar says that Malik Ashfaq Kisan Ittehad was the finance secretary of Vehari district. He died of chemical poisoning and shelling.
Kisan Ittehad has demanded that the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore be removed and the Punjab Chief Minister take notice of the incident. Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police Inam Ghani has sought a report of the incident from the CCPO.
On the other hand, the farmers' board has called off the protest on the assurance of approval of the demands by the Punjab government. Provincial Law Minister Basharat Raja said that the recommendations of the Farmers Board would be incorporated in the agricultural policy of Punjab. Representatives of the Farmers' Board will be taken into confidence in important decisions regarding farmers.
Basharat Raja told the farmers that Chief Minister Usman Bazdar himself is a farmer. Who better to understand the problems of his farmer brothers than him. Farmers, trust the government and do not create problems for the people through protests. All the problems of the farmers will be solved on priority basis.
