Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections are going to be held today. Polling will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

In Gilgit-Baltistan, more than 300 candidates are contesting in 23 constituencies of 10 districts while more than 700,000 voters will exercise their franchise.

The number of male voters is 382,997 and the number of female voters is 321,075.

Other parties, including the Pakistan People's Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, are running.

GBA III Gilgit III will not have elections. PTI candidate Jaffar Shah had passed away in the constituency.

On the other hand, 3,000 police personnel from Punjab, 2,000 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 500 from Sindh and 200 from Balochistan have reached Gilgit-Baltistan for duty during the election process.

These personnel are being deployed in 10 districts of Gilgit-Baltistan as required. Besides, 2506 Gilgit-Baltistan police personnel will also be on election duty.

Among other security forces, 965 GB Scouts, 1,700 Rangers and 1,100 FC personnel will also assist the police in the election process.

On the other hand, Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan has said that all arrangements for the elections have been completed.

He said that Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections would be held in a free, fair and impartial manner.
