Washington: The United States has decided to withdraw more US troops from Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Pentagon has ordered commanders to be ready for the withdrawal of 2,500 troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a foreign news agency.

According to the American journal Foreign Policy, 2,000 troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan and 500 from Iraq. There are currently 4,500 US troops in Afghanistan and 3,000 in Iraq.

According to the American magazine, the reduction in the army will be completed by January 15, but the final decision to withdraw the army will be made by the White House and an executive order will be issued by the end of this week.

Last month, US Army Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Millie said the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan was still conditional.

He said the withdrawal of more US troops from Afghanistan would depend on a reduction in violence and other conditions agreed with the Taliban in February.

"We are trying to end the war thoughtfully and responsibly," said General Mark Millie.

"We want to end the war on the condition that we guarantee the protection of important US national security interests at stake in Afghanistan," he said.
