Twelve people have been charged in Germany with armed attacks on mosques and conspiracy to kill or injure large numbers of Muslims.
According to a statement issued by German prosecutors, the men wanted to create a civil war-like situation in the country by killing or injuring Muslims in attacks on mosques.
Officials say the group includes 11 people and one man promised to fund them. The suspects met regularly to plot. To carry out this plan, they needed a weapon worth 50,000 euros, in which one man promised to pay thousands of euros.
Prosecutors in the southeastern German city of Stuttgart say all the suspects are German nationals. Eleven of them have been arrested and only one is a fugitive. One suspect died in custody, but it was not immediately clear under what circumstances he died.
In Germany, right-wing extremists have carried out several attacks on Muslims in recent years. Members of Germany's extremist secret group, the National Socialist Group, were indicted in 2018 on charges of killing ethnic Turks.
Armed members of the group have been attacking ethnic Turks for a decade. Last year, a right-wing extremist attacked and killed two people in East Germany.
It is also worth noting that the German police and armed forces also have sympathies with right-wing extremists, and many of them have been exposed.
