Gilgit: All educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan have been closed for a week due to the second wave of corona virus.

According to the Director Schools, all educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan will remain closed from November 17 to 23.

He said that schools were being closed due to the election to take precautionary measures.

He said that colleges and schools were used as polling stations where there was a rush of people and the educational institutions would be reopened after thorough cleaning, spraying and precautionary measures.

He said that all measures are being taken on the direction of the government to control the corona virus.

On the other hand, due to the second wave of corona virus in Pakistan, the decision to continue the teaching process in educational institutions or to take a holiday has been postponed for a week.

A statement on the meeting of the National Coordinating Committee chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan said that a decision on educational institutions would be taken in a week.

The decision on immediate holidays in educational institutions was sent to the National Coordinating Committee at a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers.

Earlier, a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood, in which the situation in Corona was discussed. The education ministers of the four provinces attended the meeting.

The meeting of inter-provincial education ministers considered immediate holidays in educational institutions and proposed to keep them closed from November to January.

In the meeting, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir supported the proposal for immediate holidays while Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan opposed it, after which the final decision on the closure was adjourned for seven days.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood had said that the final decision regarding educational institutions would be taken by the National Coordinating Committee. Corona cases in educational institutions have risen alarmingly.
